Salters are a famous scale and balance makers from West Bromwich, near Birmingham, active through much of the 19th and 20th centuries. They are now part of the Avery Berkel Group. While scale casings are made of steel or iron, brass is frequently used for dials and internal parts that need good corrosion resistance and self-lubrication.
